Your Baby in Daycare:
Are you out of your mind?
 by Seyla Vee*  ©2004, P 4
*Sounds like "C'est la Vie", a French phrase meaning "That's life".
...I am a home daycare provider.  I have been in this business for over twenty years.  ...My daycare is highly recommended...(but) it is my opinion that infants and toddlers up to preschool age have no business in daycare.

They try to kiss a crying, screaming child goodbye...
The child drops to the floor sobbing and begs me to get his mommy.
A variation of this happens nearly everyday with every child. I feel like a witness to a crime; a crime committed every day all over the country by...parents leaving their little ones at daycare.

If I were the most wonderful daycare provider in the world, I would have time to spend, at most, a few minutes a day with each child, hugging him and giving him the individual attention he needs and wants.

...most modern and expensive (daycares are) set up so that you can monitor your child from work via your computer. Isn’t technology wonderful?
You can watch your crying child being comforted by strangers in real-time from your office.

I swear, one day I am just going to close my daycare and write a letter to each parent detailing all of the emotionally damaging days their children have suffered...
Parents will be in shock; they will think that something was wrong with the daycare...
I don’t have enough time to hold, comfort, carry and play with each child individually...
If I tried to be open with the parents, they would immediately seek another daycare.

Many parents bring a list of questions. Some of the more popular ones are, “Do you spank the children for discipline?”  “Do you shake babies to get them to quiet down?” “Do you prop up bottles for infants when you feed them?” Do they think that any daycare provider is going to answer "yes" to any of those questions even if they do those things?

I had one mom who even wanted to know if I fill out a daily report on each child...
I guess the next best thing to raising your child in her mind, is to read about your child.

(There are) specialty daycare places that deal only with sick kids, and more or less keep them in isolation all day. Isn’t that heartless?
