According to the media's hyperbole,
Canadian couples don't have enough "high-quality" subsidized daycare
facilities. As soon as they conceive, these couples are in impelled to
rush out and place their unsuspecting embryos on daycare waiting lists for
fear there will be no placements when the time is ripe to kick the neonate
into the harsh world.

True, the specter of middle class North Americans
waiting in line to warehouse their children in day care centers makes the
heart bleed -- for the children, that is.

I still recall the day I learned my pride and joy
had been conceived. I was unable to deposit this personage of my
creation to the custody of strangers (in a day care).
