Daycare...Don't Go There...

Daycare in the United States has come to
be used not as a last resort for widowed mothers, or families in absolute
dire straits, but as a normal part of childrearing. The choice to put a
newborn into a daycare situation is no longer looked upon as a desperate
act, but as a "lifestyle choice". When the choice to use daycare is made, it
is not the parents who will be affected the most by the decision, it is the
child.

If love is lacking, as it is in most
daycare situations, the child *will* suffer. As a parent, you (may) not see
it (no behavioral changes, etc) as the child will be accustomed to the
daycare lifestyle, but it will have an impact. If a child is consistently
pushed away, degraded, needs ignored, and cries put off, there *will be*
long term problems with self-esteem, self image and trust.

(In a daycare), her care is basic, no
millions of kisses and intimate moments. She is well cared for in the most
mechanical of ways....and that is in a good child care setting. In another
she may find life in a swing filling her days..it is there she is reduced to
sleep and not so much work for her "teachers". She may be moved around too
harshly on the changing table, or have to cry intensely to get attention for
her needs. While being fed her teachers may talk over her, no one ever
stopping to gaze into her eyes and fill her with love.

"It takes a village to raise a child" is
a popular phrase today that people use to make themselves feel better about
institutionalized daycare...The new definition of communal care for children
does not leave much room for the parents. Children and babies are dropped
off at daycare at 7:30am, to be cared for all day by a string of low-paid,
emotionally un-invested workers, and picked up in the evening. This is not a
village raising a child...this is daycare workers babysitting a child for
the bulk of a child's day, five days per week...

The Most Common Daycare Abuses
1. Neglect
2. Favoritism
3. Rough Handling
4. Harsh Words
The Reason??
LACK OF LOVE, LACK OF EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT, AND HIGH STRESS LEVELS ON
THE PART OF CHILDCARE WORKERS.
Put yourself in their shoes. They are working for low wages, they *do not*
love your child, the job is mostly monotonous and requires endless caring
for egocentric little beings...A day spent in a room with a bunch of
children they do not love. Some they even dislike.
...How can you be sure none of the above is not happening to *your* baby?
They cannot tell you, and generally their behavior will not change, as they
are used to this lifestyle at daycare...it is all they have known.
